What did you think Guild Wars 2 would be like?
Anet own quote "Were a company of passionate gamers with one mission: to make Guild Wars 2 the best MMORPG ever created."
Since for some, including myself, the game is no where as great as I imagined it would be. I had great expectation from the developer own http://www.arena.net...esign-manifesto.
Reading through that manifesto it doesn't feel like the current product is what the developer quite envision, and the end game product doesn't feel fully realized. Even without the manifesto I had Guild Wars 2 in my mind as the greatest mmorpg since World of Warcraft, and a game that like WoW would take mmorpg to the next level. While I will list what I expected, due note that while it might sound unrealistic to some, I do feel these things are very possible.
Things that I imagined whether unrealistic or not. I will also list things that I thought would be in the game at launch since they said they won't release it until it is finish.
IMPORTANT!!!! DO NOT JUDGE ME
1. Player's farm - A small area in the world that is an instance that let you do things without much combat at your leisure.
I IMAGINE GW2 as a game that is not just an mmorpg but a game where your character is part of the world.
Things you can do
You can trade animals like Cow, Sheeps, etc... with other player farm. You will start off with a small farm but as you spent more time on it via (herding, feeding, picking up poop, growing crops, decorating your farm, expanding your farm, scouting for land, hiring helping hand, fighting bandits, protect animals from predator, fishing, etc... your farm grow. Your farm is also base on rank and work just like an RPG as you level up. You will earn better tool as you level up. The crops you grow in your farm are use as cooking recipes, cooking crafting, etc... this takes the part of gathering. For future expansion, having your own mining shed and hunter's lodge will make it complete.
2. In game activities: Racing, arm wrestling, beer brawl, drunk tank, hand to hand combat, archery, fishing, trophy hunting, gambling, wanted poster, night watch, artifact searching (including deep sea), etc...
3. Home instance/player housing matter: For example, if you **** a centaur boss, when you enter your home (player housing) u will see the head of the centaur in your living room. Yes, I'm talking about house. Thought it won't be as customization as Skyrim. Your home instance can also store all your armor via in game closet (think GTA). All your award and trophy including HoM are also store in a nice case in the house (think of the crib feature in ESPN games). Basically your home instance/player housing work very similar to your farm.
4. Guild fortress - basically is an update and improve version of guild halls. Guild fortress size like your farm also work on a RPG level system where bigger guild have bigger guild fortress by donating more money than smaller guild.
GvG alliances, CTF, random arena, dueling, 1 on 1 tournament, DoTa/LOL 5 on 5, WvW (zergfest like I thought), original 5 on 5, observing mode, guild cape
5. Distinct Armor variety. A human warrior starting armor does not look like a Charr starting armor, and not just the color. All 8 class have their own individual armor like Guild Wars 1. Every zone has their own armor. You can also get boss gear from dungeon along with dungeon gears.
6. Color customization: Weapon can be dye, there is also a mix coloring palette.
7. End game content: Hardcore mode follow by Legendary mode - where you replay your content over and over again with better drops, and mobs that require you to really make use of dodge and all your skills (no more auto-attack). Normal mode is for casual player, but hardcore and legendary mode is for the hardcore fan. Anet said they wanted to make this game for all type of audience if I remember correctly.
8. Weapon customization: I thought weapon slot were not fix, and there are 15 skills for weapon slot and 15 skills for utlities/elite. You can only choose five at a time and only when your out of combat. However in WvW and PVP's (all the pvp i listed) u have to choose everything in the beginning so there is no balance issue.
9. Combat Mode 1.0 - I seriously thought Guild Wars 2 combat would be like Tera after Anet said their combat would be so awesome!
This may be overkill seeing that it would pretty much make B2P subscription base game a thing of the past, and may even surpass WoW in terms of how many peoples are in the game.
Nonetheless whether this is unrealistic or realistic or whether I'm a visionary or a delusional fool, it hard not to argue if GW2 had all these future, it may be the game of the decade or quite possibly the best game ever made.
Anet own quote "Were a company of passionate gamers with one mission: to make Guild Wars 2 the best MMORPG ever created."
The thing i list above would make that quote come true.
