GW2: My experience (summarized) so far
I like GW2. I'm not in love with it. I've played MMOs since EQ Kunark era (yes, I still believe EQ was the "game changer") and played EQ2, Vanguard, DAOC, DDO, WOW, Rift, etc. Been with hardcare raiding guilds in most for some of the time at least. I have a little experience. Here's my summary (level 60).
- The game is beautiful. Truly. Glad I got a new PC 2 months ago, though.
- I really like the story line. One of the NPCs in my storyline just died, and I'm still pissed. But then again, Obewan Kenobe died, too. I understand the emotional tie to loss.
- I'm working on cooking and artificing (sp), it's seems OK, still early into it.
- I'm a Guardian. I like my weapon choices and skills, but I only use 3 of the options available. The others don't seem really viable.
- I like the skill point tree . . . kinda . . . I wish more slot's opened up the higher level you reached, even if it's only for passive talents.
I could go on, there is a lot to like, but like I said, this is a summary.
- Zone events, combat, etc. It seems to be mostly zerg/pug mentality, and the reason I'm concerned about it is my next point.
- Community. There is none. Community is what keeps a game going for years. Not Pugs and not Zergs. It's like I'm playing a really fun single player game with random NPCs who join me from time to time: unfortunately, those NPCs are really players that I'll never get to know.
- Boss Strategy. It exists, maybe . . . But once again, without community and communication, it's a zerg.
I'm hoping that when I'm 80, the community will "begin", so to speak, and the strategy will show up on the "end game" mobs/events. And please don't say "the whole game is the end game", it isn't and will never be. Raids or no raids, most players still want a since accomplishment AND community.
I still have high hopes for GW2!
