Interesting opinions and reaction to the new GW2 advertisement from Non-MMO people
So the response from the established GW2 community by and large is negative towards the new advertisement "Our Time is Now", but I thought I would share my experience with a group of people who saw the ad with me in a focused setting (we were all about to watch Prometheus in a dimmed room on a 55" LED, complete with popcorn) who were a mix of gamers/non-gamers and none of them MMO heads.
7 people in all, and after viewing the trailer in HD, the response was overally positive and excited.
A definitive 5 out of the 7 people said it made them want to check out the game, the 6th person said they "Hate Felicia Day, so they will hate whatever this Guild Wars 2 is trying to be" (which I laughed generously at), and the 7th person said it made them want to never look at the game due to "Too many good looking/model looking people" in the ad. This a sentiment I've heard in comments before, which I can't really understand/get my head around..but whatever - it's a focus group.
Since then, 1 of the 6 that said they were interested in checking out the game, and this is a girl who's NEVER considered playing an MMO who's only RPG experience thus-far is Skyrim, purchased the game this morning, and I have another IRL mate in Tyria, largely thanks to the seemingly reviled new television/web advertisement....
So a big thank you to McT (the director) for creating this advertisement, it's upped my GW2 playing IRL friends tally to 2 from a lowly 1, and for that, I am very grateful.
Is the ad weird and different? sure....
Does it seem to work, bringing new players to the game? seems to...
*raises eyebrow inquisitively*
