GW2: Master of Salami Slicing
(Please note that the following post could not be posted on the Official Forums, due to me being banned from creating new threads. If you'd like to repost this in the official forums, you have my supreme consent to do so)
Salami slicing refers to a series of many small actions, often performed by clandestine means, that as an accumulated whole produces a much larger action or result that would be difficult or un<edit> to perform all at once. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salami_slicing
In Guild Wars 2, you can currently spend all gems purchased, as long as they are in multiples of 10.
If you have a number lesser than 10, then you have to purchase more gems to equal that number out to 10. This is due to the change made in the Halloween/Gemgate Update.
The cost of a single gem is: $10 / 800 = $0.0125
For those who dislike math:
# of Gems = Real Money Cost
1 = $0.0125
2 = $0.025
3 = $0.0375
4 = $0.05
5 = $0.0625
6 = $0.075
7 = $0.0875
8 = $0.10
9 = $0.1125
Hypothetically, if GW2 has 1 million players spending at least $10 a month on the game, and if they have 9 left over gems per each of those months, then The Master of Salami Slicings income is $112,500.
Is this a moral dilemma? Or is this to be considered a tip, as in the waitress at Ruby Tuesday getting $0.1125 from the million customers she serves per month.
I find the numbers interesting. As a matter of fact, Id even go as far to say that this is a really nice Office Space reference/Easter Egg found with in GW2, currently.
