What would've made the Personal Story better...
* Minor Spoiler Alers*
Now I know everyone's disappointed about the personal story. Half the fault lies with Anet, for bad writing, cringe-worthy cinematics, clunky sequences and for rushing it all.
But half the fault lies simply with the fact that the personal story goes from level 1 to level 80. Obviously this isn't Anet's fault, it would be even worse if they made the personal story only a level 80 thing, or something...
They intended it to be something to do every level or so. The trouble with this is that then the story becomes disjointed and broken. Imagine reading a book, but instead of reading it as a whole, you read a sentence every day. The story no longer becomes entertaining or perplexing, but just a jumble of words and punctuation. Much like the personal story no longer felt like a story in which I was the maker, the controller, but instead it just felt like a checklist of objectives. *Go **** these bandits* *Go invoke the spirit of a fallen pirate* *Go beat on Zhaitan*.
I feel that the solution to this disjointedness is to have a summary at the end of your personal story. Remember when you first create your character, you get that amazing cinematic, which outlines your background and then finishes with the phrase 'This is my story'?
Didn't that give you such high hopes for your Personal Story? Why can't after you finally laser beam Zhaitan, there be a cut scene which summarises your personal story, as if it was a book or a biography.
Raised by common folk... set out into the wider world...fighting centaurs...knocked unconscious...hero of Shaemoor....finding my sister...combating the Risen...killing Zhaitan...This is my Story.
