Nudity in Non-Human Races
(This topic contains subject matter which is being posted by a person who uses immature terms, but would prefer if people could take a mature attitude towards it)
(Please keep the "But then all the 13 year old boys would lose control" out of the discussion, along with any other comments about young dudes enjoying ***** too much)
So I was thinking the other day about something I've thought of on and off ever since launch. I'm not sure exactly where I stand on the subject, but I am curious about what other people feel, and if anyone agrees. Since the point of this topic isn't really specific or unique to Guild Wars, feel free to give examples from other games so long as they match the context and your post makes sense, etc etc. I'll be doing the same.
I've been wondering why Anet put these awkward, seemingly out-of-place flowers and leaves over the sylvari genitals and "melons". The male genitals I can understand, as a big floppy veggie wiener waving about is probably just better off hidden, even if it's not a real wiener. The sylvari vagoo I'm slightly on the fence about, but I could understand why it would be hidden. On one hand, a vagoo isn't as obnoxious as a wiener, and would be mostly invisible even if exposed; on the other hand, it's still genitals and I can understand people objecting to it.
What I don't get(I do get, but I mean I disagree with) is why the sylvari "melons" are hidden. I understand this is a game that's going to have lots of younger folk on it, but sylvari tits don't even have nipples or areolas(as you can see in the sylvari intro). In Western society we usually consider the areola to be the limit. Show as much **** as you want, just keep them damn areolas covered. So if the areola's the limit, how do we know where to stop with sylvari? Why are we stopping?
The sylvari breasts are essentially featureless lumps on a chest, and what's worse is that said lumps are covered up by these awkward, stapled-on flowers that just look... weird, like they were a last-minute panic to cover that which only imitates something most (if not all) of us have seen.
I understand there's a need to keep things on the safe side, but it seems a bit silly when you consider just how scant some of the armor in this game is, and the fact that you can see a bare-breasted sylvari in the intro.
Drawing on a similar comparison from another game, there's the Naga Siren from DotA 2, who possesses the same "chest lumps" that only imitate breasts. They're bare, out in the open, and the game doesn't even have an age restriction. These snake-tits are completely inoffensive(even if they're completely unnecessary) and I don't believe I've ever heard a complaint.
(Click the spoiler below to see Naga Siren's in-game model so you can know what I am talking about)
Spoiler
But perhaps what's even more unnecessary and confusing is that asura and charr females have their... uh... "breast area"(?) covered up in their underwear, yet completely exposed on some armors. Obviously no sane person would object to full exposure since there's a complete and total lack of breasts- not even a pair of mosquito bites. So would it hurt so much to take it half a step further and allow the sylvari's "chest lumps" to go fully exposed?
Honestly, would any of you really be offended by female sylvari running around bare-breasted?
