Having a Real Tough Time Picking a Race.
Hello there, newbie poster here and i am making an account for some advice.
I have my profession down, i am going to be playing as a warrior. Trouble is i don't know whether to pick between a Charr or a Human so i was hoping some people can help me out. For me it's like picking between two things i really enjoy. To sum it up, i enjoy pretty much everything about each race so obviously the choice is hard to simply pick one to main. The easy choice would be to pick both but i don't really see the point in playing two warriors. If i make an Alt i'll probably pick a different profession to make it more unique.
I have weighed up a couple reasons why i like each race so i will share them with you now. I am going to be playing as a male aswell by the way. I have also tested the waters with both the Charr and Human to level 20 for their story and i have to say, i like both. I have made a short video looking at some of the possible end game armour combinations for both the Charr and the Human Male that i liked here if you want to check it out. It may be relevant to a couple of the points posted below.
Human
Pros
Cons
Charr
Pros
Cons
So there you go, sorry for the longish read but i thought it be best to note down the main things that i have found while playing the two races. it kind of seems more a toss up between picking a race that is generic and played a lot but has more armour pieces that fit for me which in turn allows for more cosmetic customisation end game. Or a race which is unique in playerbase but has very little cosmetic appeal to me in terms of armour sets which make the end game customisation very hard despite the fact their culutral armour is great.
Kinda like picking something generic first but you can refine to your tastes later on with the preffered customisation or by picking something unique to start out with but being limited in terms of personalisation endgame.
Very hard choice for me. Anyone have any suggestions or have had a similiar experience?
Thank you very much for reading!

Human
Pros
- I love the armour for them, cultural, craftable, dungeon gear, everything. The armour just seems to fit the human shape very well and because of that, at end game i can probably come up with several different armour combinations to give me some variety which ofcourse is a big plus for me.
- Divinity's Reach is a pretty good city, it actually looks and feels like a fantasy city. Just everything about it really appeals to me.
- I enjoy the Human animations as well, the sword swings, the, emotions, the running, again pretty much every animation. This includes the idle animations as well. Even the subtle ones like running or jumping.
- Never ususally play a Human in a MMO.
Cons
- It may be the slight hipster in me but i find the Human races in MMO's to be the most generic to play because hey, i'm human. Why would you want to play as a human when you have the option to pick something different right?
- The fact that it is the most played race. It may be a small gripe but i'll throw it in. It's due to a tie in with the voice work. While i love Nolan North as the Human male it is kind of immersion breaking when you are in an area filled with Human males of differing professions who say different things ranging from adrenerline talk to switiching attunements, summoning etc. Kinda weird when you're a warrior hearing the casters talk in the same voice as you in a battle about what they're doing. This will happen a lot if the race is the most popular i would imagine.
Charr
Pros
- I think the Charr heavy cultural armour is the best looking heavy armour in the game. Especially Dreadnought Lv 80 gear. The other heavy cultural armour they have is also very nice to look at aswell.
- Never played a race like the Charr before in any game so it would be something new. They look so much different from the other races to me and that tail is pretty cool too. From looking at the Gw2 census they are also the last played race which i am honestly surpised about. Unique Experience?
- Animation quality on them is very well done. Their run is very different from the norm. Their idle animation with the 1H weapons is good where they start juggling it around which is pretty cool. Again, like the Humans i enjoy the animations very much. Something about the crouch position and how they generally move is also cool to me, don't know why.
- They naturally look badass without armour. You can tell that they would cause chaos just from looking at them. The claws, the teeth, really cool aspect of the race.
Cons
- I do not like the Black Citadel compared to Divinity's reach, it seems rather like an industrial site rather than a capital city.
- From looking at images and by previewing the heavy armours in the pvp locker it seems as if the Charr get the short end of the stick when it comes to armour that looks good on them. Especially the helmets. To me even the flame legion set looks out of place on them. I feel that if i was going to play a charr then i would be limited in my customisation options in terms of mix mactching armour sets to get a unique look. I mentioned earlier that the Cultural sets look amazing, which they do but they loose that unique appeal to them down the road when more people begin to gain access to them compared to the Human where many of the armour sets look good on them for me personally.
