In response to:

It's almost as if Anet is re-launching Guild Wars 2 again for the people who quit during the first month or haven't bought the game yet.

That's nice... But what about the playerbase that has put hundreds or thousands of hours into the game over the past two years and are looking forward to the next step in the development of GW2? :< I almost feel like I would've been better off not having bought the game at launch.

ArenaColin said:

I think that's a totally fair question, as a veteran user I'd wonder that too - why does making the game better for new users benefit me when I want features that benefit me?

The simple answer is: by ensuring the game foundation is solid for new users, we'll be in a place after the feature pack where we can do the kind of things that excite both veteran and new users simultaneously, and we'll be able to retain a much larger percentage of the new or long returning users when they show up. Can't say anything more than that yet - but that's the thinking, you don't need to agree with it, but it's important to know why the decision was made!

Emphasis mine. Cantha confirmed?

Reddit's Pre-CDI Discussion- Guilds and Guild Content!

Hello everyone. This weekend let's start a discussion for an "unofficial" CDI. The official one is slated to start next week. The topic will be Guilds, Guild Related Content (including things you want in the game). I will be sending this to Anet people after this weekend/when the discussion dies down. So hopefully we get a lot of responses!

Here are some things to help you get started.

  1. As many of us know GvG is a popular requested game mode. So how would you design it? How would maps be made? How many people? Secondary Objectives? Primary Objective? How would you keep it interesting for people and get people to continually play it?

  2. Guild Halls. Should the problem of Guild Halls "draining" city of players be considered? If so how would you prevent it from happening? How would guilds acquire Guild Halls? How would you make Guild Halls accessible to all guilds (new and old) while still keeping it a challenging/fun way of getting them to help promote a sense of accomplishment and progression? What would you be able to customize in a Guild Hall? How many Guild Hall types should there be in the game at least? How would you earn customization for your Guild Hall?

  3. Guild Gear (weapons and armor). Should these be like the guild mission gear? Should they be like the vanilla gear and display guild emblems? Should the guild emblem be the focus of the gear look? What ways could you earn this new guild gear?

  4. Guild Missions. What do you like about the current missions, what do you dislike? What would you like to see more of? What QoL changes can be made to the current system? How do you convince players to do all the guild missions every week?

  5. Guild Management. What do you dislike about it currently? What do you like? What QoL changes could be made?

  6. Guild Presence. What game modes (WvW, sPvP, instanced PvE, open world PvE) would you like to see the importance of guilds rise? How would this be accomplish? *Guild Presence being how important they are and how much they interact with the game mode's mechanics

Now the topic discussions aren't focused just on those 6 things. Those are just some examples to help you get started. Anything related to guilds is acceptable!

I will of course be playing devils advocate for the sake of discussion and may try to counter your suggestions with possible problems. This does not mean I disagree, but it is purely for the sake of discussion!

Thank you :)

The "Cupcakes for ArenaNet" Post. In which we plot to flood ANet with baked goods.

Welcome to the Cupcakes for ArenaNet Fundraiser. It's Guild Wars 2's second birthday and this is campaign to send the Devs some eatables. Everyone deserves a cupcake now and then. Who more than this excellent development team that has crafted the great and beloved game that brought us together: Guild Wars 2.

Recently there has been a lot of tension in the subreddit, and on the forums, with hate and down-votes flying everywhere. There are a lot of valid points, and interesting issues being discussed. But poison has been seeping in like Scarlet's Toxic Alliance and dissension creeping like Mordremoth's vines, choking and crushing the once lively and fun discussions the subreddit contained.

But let us all just take a few steps back. Really look at what this game is. A mostly well balanced MMO with no subscription fee and next to no pay to win strategy. Also let us think of all the time, effort, and dedication this wonderful group of men and women have expended to make this exceptional game available to us. Don't you think that deserves a cupcake or two for their birthday?

If you do, please visit The Cupcakes for ArenaNet IndieGoGo Fundraising Page

Show your appreciation, and share you suggestions.

A couple ideas for bonus things are:

A thank you letter mailed to ArenaNet where the players get one sentence of thanks. A massive letter of gratitude and happy birthdays would be nice in my opinion.

A Guild Wars 2 gathering in a large area where a large amount of players could cheer, dance, turn into quaggans, and generally spam say chat with thanks and birthday wishes.

And as a final note, DO NOT DOWNVOTE those who express a their opionions of why they don't want to donate. Those people are players just like you, and have every right to think what they want. I would also ask of those players/users to please not incite arguments or try to stir up anything. This is an effort to do a kindness, don't let your pride get in the way of your morals :)

And thanks to /u/dulfy for suggesting the idea and granting me the priviledge to organize it.

LONG LIVE TYRIA!

The Arenanet super-post containing all announcements can be found here.

I am curious how everyone feels about the feature pack so far.

Disclaimer: we still have Friday's Announcement to come, "A Fresh Start" and next week focusing on Collecting and Trading. However, most core gameplay announcements, save tomorrow are all released.

I went and collected all of the announcements so far to see if it makes it a little easier on my mind:

  • World Tournament series announced
  • Standard Enemy models in PvP
  • PvP exclusive armor
  • Balance changes
  • WvW Golem mastery
  • WvW Siege Traps
  • Account Bound Commander Tags & Colors
  • Global Guilds
  • Guild Mission improvements
  • Megaserver updates (group by guild/language)
  • Dungeon Owners leaving will not end a dungeon
  • Crafting UI
  • Performance updates (WvW specifically mentioned)
  • Crafting Profession specific back-pieces
  • New items for leveling?
  • More likely to obtain loot you can use

I am not entirely sure about is why Anet decided to split minimal announcements into so many days. It feels like it goes against their desire to drum up hype. The presentation is almost as baffling as the lack of substance so far. Instead of announcing more things at once, each days announcement has felt more or less underwhelming. For instance, today's reveal contains backpacks already implemented in the Chinese release, and 2 minor features related to leveling characters.

How do you folks feel about it at the moment? What are you looking forward to?

EDIT: Added a list of announced features

Some Clearyfications made by Chirs Cleary

Safe Spot Standing in a location to hold aggro or attack a monster/boss while it is unable to damage you (basic attack) and does not leash back to its original starting position.

This is an abuse of a geometry and/or pathing bug, and is considered an exploit.

https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/dungeons/Safespots-and-Exploits/first#post4338146

Avoiding mechanics by standing in a singular area isnt an exploit, its possible bad dungeon design (for example the cage room in the newer flame and frost fractalsorry I cant remember the name of the dungeon its late). In that fight there are areas in which you can avoid almost the entire fight mechanic, thats an example of poor dungeon mechanic design.

Standing on a rock/ledge/platform while the boss attempts to hit you from below (yes there are some bosses that still have abilities that hit you), is a problem with pathing and the boss not resetting when it cant reach the target. This is exploiting a bug.

Kiting and using geometry (running AROUND pillars and such) is a perfectly valid tactic.

Standing outside a stationary bosss range is not an exploit, the boss should reset after an extended period of time, but is not. This is an example of poor boss implementation, and not an exploit.

Using terrain to block/dodge boss mechanics is also considered a valid tactic (standing behind a pillar when a boss charges).

At this point we are getting very nitpicky at each individual boss and each mechanic in question. Im sure most of you are aware of what is an exploit and what is a mechanic/tactic. We are working on fixing these Safe Spots, but its going to take some time to get it done, and will probably happen over time. (Sorry I am not going to go into particulars for fights/changes)

Ill be very clear here: If a GM finds a player that is using a Safe Spot, that player will be moved out of the safe spot and warned (via in-game text). If they are caught again, that account will be temporarily suspended.

If a GM finds a player that is using a Safe Spot and selling the dungeon run, that account will be temporarily suspended without warning.

Hello,

Credit to: Palawajoko for giving me the idea for this discussion

First and foremost this is a discussion thread only for me I'm not one of the people wanting guild halls, however seeing the various threads about them I got to thinking about how they would be implemented in the game.

Disclaimer: Posted ideas are opinions and speculations only! This is just how I would do it and not sure if this discussion/suggestion can be brought into the game without allocating resources.

  1. The Guild Hall and you The definition of a guild hall is basically a private area in which a guild or other people with permission obtained from guild to hang out and relax without having to worry about players and such. It is also a good place to role play, chat and hang out with friends or have meetings to. Usually a guild hall consist of one big building with multiple rooms or in most cases a town of sorts. This leaves us with various options on how they can do this either.
  • A. Make an instance where its one big building on an island.
  • B. Make an instance where its a town with several plots to build buildings for NPC to reside in. More on that in a moment.

Basically a guild hall/town can provide many things like privacy and immersion. Now with that being said I can see why it is one of the most wanted features. Who in their right mind wouldn't want a place to show off their prestige or have a place to hang out with people with similar interests? Now that I made an introduction lets dive a little deeper here.

  1. How can Guild halls/Towns add to progression?
  • One of the things a guild or guilds strive for is progression weathers it PVP, PVE, WvW or Roleplay there is various paths on how each guilds reaches their main goal.

For example with Guild Towns you can buy several plots in which you can expand the number of plots by talking to a NPC for a fee which includes gold in the guild bank , Merits and influence. Once the building is complete you can summon NPCs which are obtained by contracts from various methods below.

  • PvE Dungeons, World boss events are several ways to obtain these NPCs and these guys will specialize in Armors, Skins etc.

  • PvP The NPCs can be obtained from winning matches of course or a reward track to get NPC that specialize in PVP armor, weapons and finishers.

  • WvW Theses NPCs are obtained by capturing keeps and objectives these WvW NPCs can sell sieges, traps and other tools to assist with WvW.

  • RPers Obtained in PvE or they can build the builds and have the person act as a merchant though that is kinda simple.

Next the NPCs as I mentioned can be found as loots to summon using a guild hall to place the NPCs at the buildings you built. Now each NPC can be categorized as Weapons, Materials, and Armors and so on. One can suggest depending on the background of the NPC they can sell skins based on that. Now these NPCs can come in tiers and the higher the tier the better the items, but they are not permanent so you got to manage when to put them up for your guild and other guilds to come by and use.

Lastly like all guild Halls/Towns people will love to set up what type of environment for their town to be based in I listed some examples below each with a different style of building and feel.

  • Forest environment
  • Elona Themed
  • Cantha Themed
  • Citadel Themed
  1. Extra Feature
  • Last, but not least one another feature can be a statue showing off an achievement like a Teq statue or etc based on a quest where you have to do the following requirements like world boss kills, Keeps captured, matches won and so on when you do that and get another objectives you can erect a statue that not only gives buffs, but also show off.

I know this thread is long, but I wanted to share my thoughts on this. Note this is merely discussion of course. Thought comments?
